Andrea is a postdoctoral researcher working within the Cellular and Molecular group at the MBA. Her research focus has mainly centred on the ecology of viruses and the interactions with their hosts beginning with her PhD on viruses that infect cyanobacteria. Her post-doctoral research has included projects investigating the molecular ecology of the coccolithophore, Emiliania huxleyi, and its co-occurring viruses, as well as the study of RNA viruses infecting honeybees.
Andrea is currently working on the ‘D-Factory’ project which aims to set a world benchmark for a sustainable micro-algae biorefinery, being involved in the genotyping and transcriptome analysis of halophilic algae. She is also involved in a project funded by the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation developing transformation technologies for the haptophytes.
