Nicolas is the Academic Liaison and Development Officer for the MBA. Nicolas co-ordinates the development and submission of funding bids through the EU funding programmes, working with the Science Support Officer and relevant project leaders and research staff. He acts as a key central contact, building relationships and strengthening the position of the MBA, regionally, nationally and internationally with potential funders and collaborators in EU and international networks. Nicolas is also the coordinator for Plymouth’s participation and development of the ESFRI European research infrastructure EMBRC (European Marine Biological Resource Centre), as well as the UK National Contact Point for EMBRC.
Nicolas graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2009 with a PhD in molecular and spatial ecology and took up a post-doctoral position at the Marine Biological Association of the UK (MBA) investigating optimal foraging strategy and ubiquitous search rules in motile marine organisms, ranging from cnidarians to higher vertebrates. In 2011 he moved into research infrastructure coordination as the Technical Officer for planning of research services and scientific planning on the FP7 project EMBRC – European Marine Biological Resource Centre preparatory phase. During the three years as technical officer he delivered scientific strategy, plans for review of infrastructure and plans for new infrastructure requirements. He is involved in the research infrastructure cluster, EMBRIC, as a work package coordinator and remains heavily involved with the development of EMBRC, both nationally and in Europe. Since 2016, Nicolas is a member of the marine science network Euromarine Steering Committee.
