After graduating Guy worked in the oil industry for a couple of years. An interest in design and desktop publishing led him to a job as Chief Illustrator, supporting academic research in the Geography department at University College, London.
His interest in all things marine led him to study for an MSc in Applied Marine Science at Plymouth University. His dissertation was with the Remote Sensing Group at Plymouth Marine Laboratory, and looked at ocean colour and sea surface temperature, and the timing of phytoplankton blooms in the western English Channel.
After some voluntary work and a spell working for the Environment Agency in the Tidal Water Quality group, Guy came to work at the MBA with the MarLIN team.
Guy manages how the MBA is perceived to external audiences through liaison with academic staff, media relations and social media interactions. He also develops and maintains the MBA branding and has editorial responsibility for the MBA web site.
He writes funding bids for educational projects and manages a community outreach project.
Alongside the Communications Officer role Guy is Editor of The Marine Biologist, the MBA’s magazine for members. This involves sourcing, editing, collating and typesetting high quality content for a full-colour magazine, published twice a year.
