Alix manages and maintains the seawater research facility at the Marine Biological Association. She is responsible for the husbandry of housed animals and liaises with the sea-going team to supply organisms for research projects. As well as day-to-day management of the seawater laboratory, she is involved in the design and creation of novel aquaria systems and ensuring that research is conducted in line with Home Office standards.
Alix has several years experience in rearing and culturing a wide range of marine organisms, but has particular expertise in breeding cuttlefish, skates and catsharks. Besides her technical role, she also provides advice and information to students, researchers, and visiting groups and is working on the development of image resources.
